FURIOUS
LIVERPOOL .... THE
MERSEY BEAT...

NO IT IS ANOTHER STORY
!
"Rumbling outta the hell holes of Liverpool came the Halligan brothers
kickin' and screamin' with the message… Rock 'n' Roll is alive and well so
sit up and listen! With such a passion for this music, they became
insulted, in fact infuriated, after going to see these so-called rock 'n'
roll bands doing the rounds today.
Luckily, this inspired them to start a band themselves in 2003 with the
sole intention of playing the music they love in the way they think it
should be played! By 2004, Furious were tearin' up every club in town,
playing to every audience you can think of… It was the heavy metal clubs
in particular that saw the sight of Furious at their wildest, with the
clubs packed with skinheads, neo-nazis, scallies, goths and maybe the odd
psychobilly, with no choice but to have 1950's rock n roll rammed down
their throats… these were great nights even if they ended up a little
dangerous!
These early days were an amazing sight but were short lived because Mark
and Andy were too young to drive and their drum and bass players at the
time weren't as madly into the music as they were…..." excerpted from

Furious - they could be the hottest thing out of Liverpool since - er,
Frankie Vaughan.... Yes – Liverpool, the European City of culture that has
given the world squillions of guitar based bands over the decades comes up
trumps again. Furious started life a few years back, and have been built
around the talents of the Halligan brothers – Mark (guitar, piano and
vocals) and Andy (guitar, screams and poses). Inspired by their parents'
love of Fifties Rock'n'roll (their Dad drives around in a 1958 black
Zodiac, and the first thing you see when you walk in the door at their pad
is a big jukebox), they started off using members of other bands to
provide drums and bass and rapidly made a name for themselves in Punk and
Metal clubs in the area. The inmates of these lowlife dives were surprised
to find that these young Teddy Boys could create such a wild storm,
eschewing the 'golden oldie' route to Rock'n'roll, with screaming vocals
and guitar delivered at 110 mph…. Since those wild early days, there have
been a few line-up changes, and Mark has swapped his guitar for a double
bass and they were joined for a while by their number one fan – another
Mark (Fazakerly), and more recently by a manic drummer from France (Yann).
The sound is as wild and mental as ever, but the 50's Rockabilly 'covers'
are gradually being replaced by their own songs and the overall sound is,
well, bleedin' terryfyin'! I remember the early days of Crazy Cavan and
was even hangin' around the Marquee Club and like places when Punk
exploded, but NOTHING is as wild and mental as this lot! The drums pound
out a relentless beat, the slappin' bass booms out and the guitar – well,
it screams like demented tomcat on heat. The husky vocals are complemented
with exciting slap-back echo. This ain't no 'Happy Days' nostalgia – this
is the real roots of Rock'n'roll with a plentiful dash of Psychobilly
mixed in that will leave you shaken AND stirred…. Elvis really HAS left
the building – and he ain't comin' back!
